First production E175 with fuel burn improvements

First production E175 with fuel burn improvements

As part of its ongoing investment in the E-Jets program, Embraer has rolled out the first production E175 that features new wingtips designed to reduce fuel burn.  The wingtips are the most visible elements of a package of improvements to reduce fuel consumption and noise that has been progressively introduced since last year.  The package includes aerodynamic streamlining of the fuselage and optimization of several systems.

The modified E175 recorded impressive results during several months of performance trials.  Fuel consumption on a typical flight is 6.4% lower than the original E175, exceeding earlier-reported savings of up to 5%.

In addition to the modifications to reduce fuel burn, other improvements to the current generation of E-Jets include longer maintenance intervals, increased productivity and lower maintenance costs.  These improvements ensure that the airplane will remain competitive until the second generation of the jet, the E175-E2, goes into operation in 2020 when it will offer even greater operating efficiency.

The first production E175 with the complete package of modifications will fly in the colours of United Express and be delivered in the coming weeks.
