A replica of the E2 wing was assembled on a test rig in the icing tunnel at NASA’s facilities at the Glenn Research Centre in Cleveland, USA, in order to conduct one week of anti-ice system trials.
A range of tests the effectiveness of the system against ice accretion under a variety of real aircraft operating conditions.
The good results confirmed a very well designed system. After the test data were analyzed, engineers compiled the information and made preparations for certification tests.
