Since the first E190 entered revenue service in November 2005, more than 500 have been added to airline and leasing company fleets worldwide. Now, a decade later, some 40 carriers fly the 100-seat aircraft.
Launch customer Jet Blue Airways of the USA placed an order for up to 100 E190s back in 2003 and flew the very first E190 two years later. It was a landmark order not for its sheer magnitude, but for defying the traditional strategy of single-fleet types for low-fare, low-cost airlines.
The versatility of the E190 was quickly recognized by other airlines who also placed orders – Copa Airlines of Panama, Air Canada, Air France, KLM Cityhopper, Finnair, BA CityFlyer, Virgin Australia, Mandarin Airlines of Taiwan, Kenya Airways and Aeromexico Connect.
In just ten years, the E190 has become a global success story. You’ll find the E190 dominant among 100-seat jets in China where Tianjin Airlines was the first carrier to acquire the aircraft. Now, China Southern, Hebei Airlines and Colourful Guizhou Airlines are also opening new routes with their E-Jets and introducing the Embraer name to many first-time flyers in a country soon to be the world’s largest air travel market.
